Gerongia [Gerongia]

Gerongia
Description

Gerongia is a genus of box jellyfish within the family Tripedaliidae, known for its relatively small size and cube-shaped bell. The jellyfish in this genus possess four long tentacles that can extend significantly beyond the length of their bell, which is used for capturing prey. Gerongia species are mainly found in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, especially around coral reefs and mangrove areas. They have a life cycle that includes both a stationary polyp stage and a mobile medusa stage. Despite their small size, they are effective predators, feeding on small fish and zooplankton.
