Ghost Pipefishes [Solenostomus]

Description

Solenostomus, or ghost pipefishes, are small, cryptically colored fishes that drift among seaweed and debris in tropical and subtropical seas. They are known for their unique appearance, which allows them to blend in with their surroundings to evade predators. Unlike their seahorse and pipefish relatives, ghost pipefish females carry the fertilized eggs in their pelvic fins that are modified into a brood pouch.
