Description

Halieutichthys is known for species that exhibit a somewhat intermediate body shape between the extreme flattening seen in other batfishes and more typical fish shapes. They are characterized by their mottled appearance, which serves as excellent camouflage against the seabed. These fishes have adapted to a wide range of depths and are often found on continental shelves and slopes. Their diet predominantly consists of small invertebrates, which they forage from the substrate.
