Sand Tiger Sharks [Carcharias]
Description
Carcharias is a genus of mackerel sharks in the sand tiger shark family, Odontaspididae. Members of this genus are characterized by a long, slender body, a conical snout, and a unique arrangement of their teeth that protrude from their mouths even when closed. These sharks are known for their docile nature despite their fierce appearance. They inhabit subtropical and temperate waters around the world, often found inshore to deep offshore. Sand tiger sharks are ovoviviparous, with embryos feeding on their siblings in the womb.
