Torpedo Rays [Torpedo]
Description
The genus Torpedo comprises a group of rays known commonly as torpedo rays, or electric rays, due to their ability to generate strong electric shocks. These rays utilize this capability to stun prey and for defense against predators. Torpedo rays have a rounded body and are often found lying on the seabed camouflaged, waiting to ambush prey. They inhabit a variety of marine environments, from shallow coastal waters to deeper offshore areas. Key characteristics include a pair of large electric organs located on each side of the head, a broad disc-shaped body, and a relatively short tail.
