Water soldier [Stratiotes]
Description
Stratiotes is a genus of aquatic plants known as water soldiers. These plants are characterized by their rosette of tough, sword-shaped leaves that float on the surface of the water. They are capable of submerging themselves during colder weather and re-emerging in the spring. Native to Europe and Asia, water soldiers play a role in providing habitat and shelter for aquatic wildlife and are used in water gardens and ponds for their decorative appearance.
