Waterthyme [Hydrilla]

Description

Hydrilla is a genus of aquatic plant known commonly as waterthyme. This submerged plant is incredibly hardy and can grow in a variety of freshwater habitats. It has small, pointed leaves that grow in whorls of four to eight around the stem, and it forms dense mats at the surface of the water. Though beneficial for aquatic life in its native range, it is considered a problematic invasive species in many areas outside its native distribution due to its rapid growth and ability to outcompete native vegetation.
