Centrocestus [Centrocestus]

Description
Centrocestus is a genus of flukes under the family Heterophyidae. The species within this genus are characterized by their requirement of freshwater snails as the first intermediate host and various freshwater fishes as the second intermediate host. They are of medical and veterinary importance due to their ability to infect humans and other animals that consume raw or undercooked fish containing metacercariae, leading to centrocestiasis.
