Planocera [Planocera]

Planocera
Description

Planocera is a genus within the family Planoceridae, comprising marine flatworms known for their striking colors and complex life cycles. These polyclad flatworms are often found in coral reef habitats, where they play a role as predators feeding on a variety of small invertebrates. Planocera species are characterized by their elongated bodies, vibrant patterns, and the presence of a pair of tentacle-like structures, called pseudotentacles, at their anterior end. These pseudotentacles are used for sensory purposes and are not true tentacles, as they are derived from the folding of the body's margin. The genus is notable for its diversity in reproductive strategies, including both sexual and asexual reproduction, and its members are known for their ability to regenerate lost body parts.
