Ribbed Limpets [Cymbula]

Description
Cymbula is a genus within the Patellidae family, distinguished by its ribbed or ridged shells, which can vary significantly in size among species. Inhabitants of this genus are found attached to rocks and other hard substrates in intertidal zones along the coasts of the Atlantic Ocean, including the coasts of South Africa. These limpets are adapted to a wide range of environmental conditions, from turbulent wave-exposed rocks to more sheltered locations. They feed on microscopic algae scraped from the surface of rocks using their radula. Their ribbed shells are not only an adaptation for structural strength but also may play a role in camouflage.
