Giant intestinal fluke [Fasciolopsis buski]

Description
Fasciolopsis buski, commonly known as the giant intestinal fluke, is one of the largest trematodes infecting humans, typically found in the small intestine. It is prevalent in Asia, particularly in regions where humans raise pigs and consume freshwater plants. The adult fluke is flat, leaf-like, and can reach lengths of up to 75mm. It is hermaphroditic, possessing both male and female reproductive organs. Infection can lead to fasciolopsiasis, causing symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, and edema.
