Dentaliida [Dentaliida]
Description
Dentaliida is an order of scaphopods known for their tooth-like, curved, tapering shells. These marine mollusks burrow into soft substrates in the ocean floor. Dentaliids have a radula (a ribbon-like structure with tiny teeth) used for feeding on microorganisms. Their shells are open at both ends, allowing for the extension of a long, slender foot used for movement and burrowing. The order includes species commonly referred to as 'tusk shells' due to their resemblance to miniature elephant tusks.
