Lesser Electric Rays [Narkidae]
Description
Narkidae, known as lesser electric rays, are distinguished by their small size and weaker electric discharge compared to other families within the order Torpediniformes. They inhabit tropical and temperate waters, often found on sandy or muddy bottoms where they can easily bury themselves for protection and to ambush prey. Their diet consists of invertebrates and small fish. Lesser electric rays use their electric organs for defense and to stun prey, but due to their smaller electric capacity, they rely more on camouflage and surprise. The family is characterized by a variety of body shapes, ranging from rounded to more elongated forms.
