Walruses [Odobenidae]

Description

Odobenidae is a family represented solely by the walrus. Walruses are distinguished by their large size, long tusks, and whiskers. They inhabit the Arctic regions, living in shallow waters where they can access the seabed to feed on bivalves and other marine organisms. Walruses are social animals, often found resting on ice floes in large herds. Their tusks are used for fighting, dominance displays, and aiding in hauling their massive bodies out of cold waters.
