Acrozoanthus [Acrozoanthus]

Description
Acrozoanthus is a unique genus within the Zoanthidae family, notable for its symbiotic relationship with other marine organisms. Unlike the typical encrusting or mat-forming nature of many zoanthids, Acrozoanthus species grow on the exterior of other marine invertebrates, such as sponges and gorgonians, resembling small, stalked flowers. These zoanthids are found in various marine habitats, often in deeper waters or on reef slopes where their host organisms reside. Acrozoanthus polyps are capable of retracting into a skeletal base for protection. They engage in photosynthesis through their symbiotic zooxanthellae and supplement their diet with particulate matter from the water column.
