Hornwort [Ceratophyllum]

Description

Ceratophyllum is a genus of submerged, rootless aquatic plants, commonly known as hornwort. These plants have a cosmopolitan distribution in freshwater environments. They possess stiff, forked leaves that form dense whorls around the stem, giving it a feathery appearance. Hornworts are important for water filtration and provide a breeding ground and refuge for aquatic invertebrates and small fish.
