Isaurus [Isaurus]

Isaurus
Description

Isaurus is a less commonly known genus of zoanthids, distinguished by its unique tubular or trumpet-shaped polyps. These polyps are solitary rather than colonial, and the genus exhibits a more elongated form compared to the typically compact colonies of other zoanthids. Isaurus is found in various marine environments, often attached to rocky substrates or nestled within coral reefs. Despite their solitary nature, they are capable of forming small clusters or groups. Their coloration varies, and like other zoanthids, they host symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae) that assist in photosynthesis, in addition to capturing food particles from the water.
