Shortail Electric Rays [Benthobatis]
Description
Benthobatis is a genus of deep-sea electric rays known for their short tails relative to their body size. These rays are found in the abyssal depths of the ocean, often exceeding 1000 meters. They have a nearly circular disc shape, and their bodies are adapted to life on the ocean floor, where they feed on small fish and invertebrates. The electric shocks they produce are primarily used for defense and prey capture.
