Vaquita [Phocoena sinus]

Description

Phocoena sinus, commonly known as the Vaquita, is a critically endangered porpoise species and is considered the most endangered cetacean in the world. It is the only species within its genus that is exclusively found in the northern part of the Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortez. The Vaquita is distinguished by its small size, robust body, and dark rings around the eyes. It is threatened by bycatch in illegal gillnets and has a very limited distribution, making its conservation a critical issue.
