Description
Cuvier's Beaked Whale is a widely distributed species found in deep, offshore waters all around the world. It is the only species in the genus Ziphius. They are known for their deep diving ability, reaching depths of nearly 3000 meters. They feed primarily on squid and deep-sea fish. Cuvier's Beaked Whales are medium-sized with males being slightly larger than females. They have a robust body, a large bulbous forehead, small eyes, and a short beak. Their coloration varies with age and sex, ranging from dark grey to reddish-brown.
