Bottletail Squid [Sepiadariidae]

Description

Sepiadariidae, or bottletail squid, are a small family within the order Sepiida distinguished by their unique bottle-shaped posterior and small size. Unlike their Sepiidae cousins, members of the Sepiadariidae family have a reduced or absent cuttlebone, contributing to their more flexible bodies. They inhabit tropical and subtropical waters, often dwelling on or near the seabed where they hunt small marine organisms. These cuttlefish are known for their ability to burrow into the sand for camouflage. Their behavior and physiology are adapted to a benthic lifestyle, living close to the ocean floor. Bottletail squids exhibit interesting behaviors such as burying themselves during the day and emerging at night to feed.
