Description

Furcasteria is a genus within the family Gadilidae, notable for its members' peculiar shell shapes and lifestyle. These scaphopods possess elongated, slender shells with a characteristic furrow running along one side, which is not seen in most other genera. They are adapted to a life buried in marine sediments, from which they extract small organic particles and microorganisms for food.
