Description
Hyaloteuthis is a genus with a single known species, the southern shortfin squid. This squid is characterized by its relatively small size and short fins, compared to other members of the family. Hyaloteuthis squids inhabit the Southern Ocean, including waters around Antarctica. They are adapted to cold environments and play a role in the Antarctic food web, feeding on small fish and krill.
