Styliola [Styliola]

Description
Styliola is a genus of small, slender tusk shells, distinct for their very fine and delicate structure. These mollusks are adapted to life in the open water, floating or swimming near the seabed. Unlike many other tusk shell genera, Styliola species have a lifestyle that is not exclusively burrowing, which allows them to occupy a unique niche within the Dentaliidae family. Their feeding habits include filtering plankton from the water, and they are an integral part of the marine food web, serving as prey for various fish and invertebrates.
