Description

The Tonicia genus comprises a group of chitons within the Chitonidae family, notable for their elongated, smooth, or slightly granular plates. Tonicia species are often found in colder water regions, from intertidal zones to moderately deep waters. They have a less ornate girdle compared to other genera, focusing more on camouflage among the algae and rocks. These chitons feed on microscopic algae, using a specialized radula to scrape their food from the substrate.
