Trochus [Trochus]

Description
Trochus, known as cone top shells, is a genus of large marine snails with conical shells that are often thick and heavy with a pearly interior. These snails are found on coral reefs and rocky substrates in tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. They are herbivorous, feeding on algae scraped from the substrate. Trochus shells have been historically valued for use in jewelry and as a source of mother-of-pearl.
