Shortfin Squid [Illex illecebrosus]

Description
The Shortfin Squid is a commercially important species of squid in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean. They are a medium-sized species, with a mantle length of up to 50 cm. They are named after their short fins, which are less than 50% of their mantle length. They are known to undergo long-distance migrations and are an important prey species for many marine mammals.
