Boreopacific Armhook Squid [Gonatopsis borealis]

Description
The Boreopacific Armhook Squid is a medium-sized squid found throughout the North Pacific Ocean. It has a mantle length of up to 30 cm, and arms equipped with hooks instead of suckers. It is a deep-sea species, usually found between 200 to 1000 meters deep. It is nocturnal and known to migrate vertically in the water column, rising to shallower waters at night to feed. Distinct features include bioluminescent photophores and an elongated body.
