Variable Chiton [Onithochiton variegatus]

Description
The Variable Chiton is a species of chiton that can be found in the rocky intertidal zones of southern Australia and New Zealand. They have eight overlapping shell plates that are usually red, brown, or mottled. Their girdle is covered with tufts of hair-like spicules. This species is both nocturnal and herbivorous, feeding primarily on algae.
