Description
Wellington Flying Squid, also known as Gould's Squid, is a large squid that grows up to 60 cm in mantle length. It is found in the waters around New Zealand, Australia, and the South Pacific. The species is known for its ability to 'fly' out of the water when threatened. It has a short life cycle, usually lasting only about a year. The squid has ten arms, including two longer feeding tentacles, and its body is typically reddish-brown to purple.
