Electric Rays [Torpedinidae]

Description

Torpedinidae, commonly known as electric rays, are a family of rays characterized by their ability to generate a strong electric shock, used for defense and to stun prey. Found in shallow coastal waters and deep seas, they have a rounded, flattened body shape and are often found lying on the seabed. Electric rays have two large electric organs located on each side of their heads, capable of producing electricity. Their diet mainly consists of invertebrates and small fish. Despite their intimidating defense mechanism, they are slow-moving and not aggressive towards humans unless provoked.
