Blackspotted Electric Rays [Tetronarce]
Description
Tetronarce is a genus within the family Torpedinidae, comprising species commonly known as blackspotted electric rays. These rays are characterized by their robust body, relatively large size compared to other electric rays, and the presence of conspicuous black spots on their dorsal surface. Like their relatives, they possess specialized electric organs derived from muscle tissue, located on each side of their heads, which they use for defense and to capture prey. Tetronarce species are found in various marine environments, from shallow coastal waters to deeper offshore areas. They often inhabit sandy or muddy substrates where they can easily bury themselves.
