Crabeater Seals [Lobodon]
Description
Lobodon is a genus encompassing the crabeater seal, which, despite its name, primarily feeds on Antarctic krill. They are one of the most abundant seal species and play a significant role in the Antarctic ecosystem. Crabeater seals have specialized teeth that allow them to strain krill from the water. They exhibit a slender body shape and are highly adapted to life in the pack ice, with their distribution closely tied to the presence of Antarctic krill.
