Weddell Seal [Leptonychotes weddellii]

Description
The Weddell Seal is the most southernly of all mammals, inhabiting the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic regions. They are known for their incredible ability to survive in extremely cold environments. They are medium to large seals, with males reaching up to 3.3 meters in length and weighing up to 600 kilograms. Weddell Seals have a robust body and a relatively small head with a rounded, tapering snout. Their coat is usually dark with light-colored patches. They are excellent divers and can dive up to 600 meters deep and stay underwater for up to 82 minutes. They feed on a variety of prey including fish, krill, and squid.
