Bottletail Squids [Sepiadariidae]

Description

Bottletail Squids, belonging to the family Sepiadariidae, are distinguished by their stout, bottle-like bodies and reduced internal shell, known as a cuttlebone. These squids are generally smaller and more robust compared to their bobtail counterparts, with a more pronounced ability to burrow into sandy or muddy substrates where they often reside. Bottletail squids are equipped with two light organs near their eyes, aiding in communication and in luring prey. They are predominantly found in tropical and subtropical waters, displaying a wide array of behaviors and adaptations that enable them to thrive in their specific habitats.
