Furry Chitons [Cryptochiton]

Description
Cryptochiton is a genus of large, unusual chitons falling under the family Acanthochitonidae, and are often referred to as the furry chitons. They are distinguished by their hidden plates, which are completely enveloped by a leathery girdle that is covered in fine, hair-like structures. These chitons are found in intertidal to subtidal zones, primarily in colder waters. Members of this genus are known for their unique appearance and the challenge they present to predators, thanks to their camouflaged, flexible girdle.
