Pygmy Squid [Walvisteuthis]

Description
Walvisteuthis, known as Pygmy Squids, represent a genus of small-sized squids in the Onychoteuthidae family. Despite their common name, these squids are not true pygmies but are notably smaller than many of their relatives. They are characterized by their compact bodies and proportionally large fins. Walvisteuthis squids are adapted to a life in the deep sea, possessing adaptations like reduced pigmentation and a reliance on ambush predation. They have a sparse distribution in deep oceanic waters.
