Stenoplax [Stenoplax]

Stenoplax
Description

Stenoplax species are known for their narrow and flat bodies, allowing them to inhabit spaces between rocks and in shallow crevices. The girdle of these chitons is relatively wide and may display a variety of textures, including smooth, hairy, or spiny, depending on the species. The dorsal plates are tightly packed and exhibit subtle sculpturing. Stenoplax chitons are primarily algae grazers and play a significant role in controlling algal growth in their habitats.
