Winged Squid [Taningia]

Description
Taningia is a genus recognized for its large and robust squids, which are among the largest of the cephalopods. These squids are distinguished by the presence of large, photophore-equipped fins, giving them a winged appearance, hence the name. They inhabit deep oceanic waters worldwide, and are known for their ability to emit intense light from the photophores situated at the tips of their arms, a defense mechanism used to startle predators and lure prey. Despite their size, little is known about their biology and behavior due to the depths at which they reside.
